GL2 History
General
GL2 was the operating system used on the IRIS line of Motorola 68000 based terminals and workstations. It was replaced by 4D1 / IRIX when the MIPS based IRIS 4D systems were introduced.
Versioning of the GL2 operating systems is a bit peculiar. An example of a GL2 version is GL2-W3.6. The first letter of the number is either W (Workstation) or T (Terminal) and denotes for which kind of system the release is intended.
The release number itself consists of two parts. The major number indicates on which platform the GL2 is intended to run, the lower number is a subsequent release number.
