Tezro
Introduction
General
Tezro is a workstation based on Origin 3000 technology. Together with the single processor Fuel the Tezro is successor to the Octane / Octane 2 series. The Tezro was available as a deskside tower and as a rackmount system. The latter one was expandable with an additional expansion module, the deskside Tezro did not have this capability.
Technical differences between these two systems are pointed out wherever they are known. The Tezro is part of the Chimera family. The rackmount system is based on the same hardware as the Onyx 350, but is limited in expansion capabilities compared to the Onyx 350.

Memory
Type: DDR SDRAM (proprietary DIMM) Sockets: 8 (4 * 2 sockets) Minimum configuration: 512 MB (2 * 256 MB DIMMs) Maximum configuration: 8192 MB (8 * 1024 MB DIMMs)
Due to the available expansion the rackmount Tezro can be equipped with up to 16384 MB RAM.
Graphics
The Tezro workstation features a V12 VPro graphics card. No other options were available for this type of system.Other
Expansion Bus
Tezro tower systems offer 8 PCI-X slots on 3 seperate busses. One of these slots is always occupied by the IO9 card with the same limitations for the bus as on the rackmount system.
Tezro rackmount systems provide slots for four 64-bit, 3.3-V PCI-X boards, 2 slots per bus (i.e. 2 PCI busses). One slot is always occupied by the IO9 card which forces the PCI bus it is attached to to 66MHz, thus limiting the performance of PCI-X cards attached to the second slot of the same bus.
The second enclosure of the rackmount Tezro offer the same PCI-X expandability as the base rackmount Tezro.
Internal I/O
Every Tezro system is equipped with a single IO9 board that contains the following functions (a dual enclosure Tezro may have a second IO9):
- Internal IDE connector for the optional DVD-ROM drive
- Internal SCSI connector for the hard disk drive(s)
- External SCSI connector for optional external drives
- Real-time interrupt in and out (RTI and RTO) connectors
- 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet connector (RJ45)
- three serial ports (on serial daughtercard)
- two PS/2 connectors (on serial daughtercard)
- NVRAM and TOD-clock
Multimedia
Only the tower Tezro systems offer baseline analog audio output with optional analog desktop speakers. The rackmount Tezro does not come with a builtin audio output option.
Disks and Devices
The Tezro tower allows also 2 internal SCSI drives plus a CD/DVD-ROM drive (half height).
The rackmount Tezro allows 2 internal Ultra 160 SCSI drives which are mounted on sleds into the front of the system. A dual enclosure Tezro with a second IO9 can be equipped with 2 more internal harddisks. Instead of the CD-ROM drives used in earlier SGI workstations Tezro systems are equipped with an internal DVD-ROM drive (slimline).

Problems
Operating System
Choosing an operating system.
The Tezro is supported in IRIX 6.5 beginning with IRIX 6.5.15 (?) up to the final release IRIX 6.5.30.
Regardless of the system configuration it is always recommended to use IRIX 6.5.30.
